College Savings Planning Session

A young child walking through a college campus, representing early college savings planning and a family’s future education goals.

Stop guessing what to save for college

You want to set your children up for success.

The hard part is knowing how.

  • Should we open a 529 or taxable brokerage?
  • How much and how often should we be saving?
  • What if our child doesn’t go to college or gets a scholarship?
  • How do we help our child without hurting retirement?

The College Savings Plan is a 1-hour education session for parents who want a clear college savings target, a better understanding of their account options, and a practical way to think through the tradeoffs.

In one hour, you will see what college could cost, what different savings paths may look like, and how much you can responsibly plan to support.

What you get

By the end of the session, you will have a clear answer to the question parents are asking:

How much can we responsibly promise our child?

You walk away with:

→ a clear college savings target
→ monthly, annual, and lump-sum options
→ clarity on 529s, taxable accounts, and UTMAs
→ tradeoffs between college, retirement, and flexibility
→ ideas for coordinating and communicating with grandparents and family
→ a better sense of what you can responsibly promise your child

What happens when you book

I’ll ask for things like your child’s age, current education savings, desired funding goal, dream school if you have one, and your biggest question about education funding.

Then we meet for 1 hour on Zoom and walk through your personalized calculator and savings guide together.

What the calculator shows

Your calculator shows what college may cost by the time your child gets there and what it may take to fund different goals.

We compare different savings methods and adjust assumptions during the session so you can see how the numbers change in real time.

After the session, you’ll receive the calculator output we landed on, along with a comprehensive PDF guide covering account types, tradeoffs, family communication, FAQs, scripts, and resources.

Who’s this for?

This session is designed for parents with young children (age 0-8) who want a clear college savings plan.

It can also help if your child is older and you want to understand your current path.

You may be a good fit if you are wondering how much to save, already have a 529 but do not know if you are on track, want to compare account options, or want to involve grandparents and family gifts.

You do not need to have everything organized before the session.

Common questions

Is this personalized financial planning advice?

No. This is an education-only session. We use your information to illustrate college savings scenarios and help you understand your options, but this does not include comprehensive financial planning, investment advice, tax advice, or legal advice.

Is this only for parents who already have a 529?

No. This works if you already have a 529, have multiple accounts, or starting from scratch.

What if my child does not go to college?

That is one of the main reasons to plan carefully. We will discuss flexibility, beneficiary changes, taxable brokerage accounts, and 529-to-Roth IRA transfer rules.

Can we include a specific school?

Yes. If you have a dream school, alma mater, or specific college in mind, you can include it when you book.

Can grandparents be involved?

Yes. We can talk through 529 gift links, family conversations, and ways to coordinate education gifts.

Will you tell me exactly what to invest in?

No. This session explains account types, savings targets, funding approaches, and planning tradeoffs. It does not include specific investment recommendations.

What happens after I book?

You’ll answer a few short questions on the booking page. I use those answers to prepare your calculator. Then we meet for 1 hour, walk through the numbers, and discuss the education savings options that may fit your family.
